Preppy Chic for Fall

I am really loving all of the preppy inspired looks coming out for the impending fall season.  As sad as I am to see the summer coming to an end, I must admit that I'm pretty excited to be able to buy some new season staples and play around with looks that involve more layering and accessories than my light and airy summer attire.

What I'm really enjoying about the "preppy chic" look is that it takes the essence of being preppy but puts a spin on it, making it less confined and much more fashionable.

I am especially in love with the JCrew Fall 2012 look book.  I really like the incorporation of classic preppy staples, such as trousers, chinos, sweaters, cardigans, and blazers, that are given an usual twist either with color or pattern.  I love the brightness of the collection and the easy with which it looks like all the pieces can be worn.  It's very preppy, but the brightness and texture of the outfits make them original.

To achieve the perfect "preppy chic" look, the outfit needs the perfect hairstyle.

Below are some more modern takes on "preppy" hair (photos via become gorgeous.com):

A headband has always been synonymous with preppy attire, but pairing the headband with clean, sleek straight hair makes the look much more modern.

Instead of a preppy french braid, try a side french braid into a low bun or a fishtail braid.

Paired with a french braid or low bun, you can add the traditional preppy ribbon. Or another style is to take the usual classic updo bun and create a voluminous high bun with a ribbon or thin headband.

What are some looks you are excited about for fall?
